Can I sell registered software?

Latest question regarding Can I sell registered software? from Yahoo: I own Peachtree Accounting Premium 2006, registered in my name that I used probably 3 or 4 times. I want to sell it on Ebay…can someone purchase this from me and register it in their name…or can they use it unregistered?

Answer: Most software license terms allow you to sell your rights to another user if you have fully uninstalled the software and destroyed all backup/archival copies. You are selling your right to use the software.

Some software have more complex registration requirements before the software is enabled. If this is the case, the new user will be refused access because the software owner (Peachtree) shows you as the user, not the person who just bought the software from you.

You should contact Peachtree to remove your registration before you sell the software. They sould be able to give you guideance as to your rights and what the new owner will have to do before they can use the software.

Remember, Peachtree owns the software and they decide how it can be used. If they will not transfer the license, then you won’t be able to sell the software.
