I couldn’t get any Mamut software to install via auto-run and I was not happy from the start. I finally got the product installed (instructions did not help!). I find it very hard to trust my critical business accounts to software that doesn’t even install easily. For anybody else that has installation problems – try to bypass the auto-run, ignore the setup.exe in the root directory on the disk, don’t try running the msi file, but instead run the setup.exe in C:\Setup\Install where ‘C’ is the disk drive. When the installation finally happened, I was asked for a lot of useless information – why? The registration was over the top!
My PC has Windows Vista (Business), a Dual Core II with a healthy 8Gb of memory. Installation of Mamut Office Standard was very easy and auto-run with no nick-ups at all. Then it did not take long to register with Mamut and following that I was good to go. In my opinion, Mamut Office is really excellent software. The layout is very good, very professional and simple to navigate and the options seem endless. I can’t find anything that isn’t within the package and Mamut will even give me a profit and loss report. If I listed everything that this software can do, this review would be 10 pages long. The most important thing for me is that all calculations completely accurate. I also like that this software has 12 months support, updates and two online training sessions. I have tried most accounting packages, including Microsoft Office accounting professional 2008, Accountz and QuickBooks (2008) – all of which are very good, but Mamut Office is simply better in all respects. After you register, Mamut give you an account manager who is there for support and to advise of upgrades – all in all a very professional approach! If your business needs comprehensive accounts software, that is simple to follow then I recommend Mamut Office Standard.
Once you get it installed, it works fine! Personally, I would only recommend Mamut for a small business and not for personal use. It runs business accounts, website and invoicing, plus has two useful online training sessions 12 months support. Its expensive, but Mamut do have a good reputation with accounts software so perhaps that justifies the high price. Time will tell I guess.
